In June, the Girls Team put our wine cork collection to good
use and made these awesome Wine Cork Strips. Although the strips were
successful, we barely made a dent in the amount of wine corks we have hanging
around. So this week, we pulled out our hot glue guns and got to work on Wine
Cork Trivets.
The supplies for this project were simple: wine corks and a
hot glue gun. I brought over a cork trivet I currently use, thinking we might
need that as a base but we never did.
My mom was much more organized than I was in picking her
corks. She wanted them all to be the same height so the trivet was an even
platform for dishes and pots. I was too focused on the TV show, but I did make
sure to glue my corks together so the wine-dyed side was facing up for some
color.
Basically, all you need to do is hot glue the corks together
until you’ve achieved the size and shape of your desired trivet. We had
anticipated our trivets taking a hexagonal shape, but it’s a lot more difficult
to manage the shape than you would think! Ultimately, we were inspired by
Desiree and her search for love on the Bachelorette and decided to make our
trivets heart shaped.
Overlooking a few burnt fingers, making the Wine Cork Trivets
was easy and painless. It was the perfect project to entertain us during the
Bachelorette finale, and a great use of wine corks. We probably spent about 1.5
hours on this project. The Girls Team loves a useful craft, and we’ll be using
these the next time we tackle a hot recipe on a Monday night!
